The forgotten part of being a solo game dev
Every team needs at least three people. The code person, the data person, and the manager. As a solo dev, I’m all three. And up until now, I had completely forgotten/ignored to be the manager. There was no schedule. No plan. No list of tasks organized by type and priority and estimated time to complete. I would boot up my project, write a bunch of JSON files, and meanwhile keep procrastinating the fact that I hadn’t even added a way to load them yet. I was writing data for classes I hadn’t even made an implementation plan for yet. Total disaster. And this was while I was already on my SECOND rewrite of this project.
So yeah, it’s time to go manager mode. If you need me, I’ll be with my spreadsheets.
